Turbo EXHAUST FLANGES with HEADER / DOWNPIPE for 1.9TD AAZ, and 1.6TD engines.

...............................

Shown at left above is the header and flange has you'll get them.. Shown at right is an AAZ turbo outlet. 1.6 TD not shown yet.

Anyway, here's the deal.....for either an AAZ engine, or 1.6 TD, these flanges come with a header / downpipe already fitted.....the downpipe is about 11 inches long, curves in a nice arc down and away from the turbo just like you'd want. The downpipe is a press fit in the flange...so you just bolt up the flange and adjust the angle you want the pipe to be at ( ideally with your engine installed in your van ) .....take the flange & pipe off the engine, and take it to your friendly local welder....and say 'here, weld this please' .....and boom...the first, and hardest part, of your exhaust system is done. "TIG" welding recommended. You can even drive it that way for a while....the turbo absorbs most of the noise so it's fairly quiet with just an open downpipe, except on acceration and hills....then it bellows some, but not horribly like a non-turbo gasoline engine with no exhaust would, for exampe.

Then you just drive your van to your exhaust shop and they can finish off the rest of the system in the van. ( at some point I will also offer a 'design drawing' for the rest of the exhaust system....showing construction details.....so you can take the drawing to an exhaust shop, and ask them to make it....the less thinking and figuring out they have to do, the less they should charge you . By the way.....for the rest of the exhaust system I use the factory diesel vanagon type of installation....the two small rubber mounts with bracket on the left, the one larger rubber mount on the right, that goes on the bracket that bolts to the diesel vanagon oil pan.....this entire system is just excellent.....I consider it very wise to keep using it.....basically it is flawless....or at least I'll say that I hardily approve of it.....and I am not shy about criticizing weak or poor design when I see it either. )

These flanges are made by an exhaust shop, by exhaust professionals, from exhaust-grade material. They're nearly 3/8 of an inch thick....like overbuilt. I've driven these for thousands and thousands of miles with no problems ever.

I have one for the TDI engine also, but I want to do some research on that to amake sure it is as good as I want it to be. ...working on that now....June 2005 . My flange for the TDI even includes a cutout section for clearance for the waste gate door in the turbo....it's a precise reproduction of the factory part.

In case it's not clear, I really make all my conversion parts to be as rugged, as simple, and as perfect as possible. Drives me crazy that when you buy an aftermarket part and it's pretty close, but not actually, ACTUALLY exactly right. I strive to make my stuff exactly RIGHT.

At turbovans.com we strive to make our conversion parts to these goals :

A Conversion Part should :

Fit right. Be easy to work on.....like comes off and on easily. All nuts and bolts should be easy to access. It should look elegant and be simple if possible. It should last well, and be built with commonly available parts.

How much are they ???...........$ 70.00 US dollars, plus shipping.

One last thing.....these flanges and dowpipes are designed primarily for turbo diesel engines mounted in vanagons at 50 degrees tilted over to the left, Diesel Vanagon style. They will also work for more upright installations.

sincerely, Scott
