C. SAFETY. There are hundreds, thousands, of ways to hurt yourself, those around you, and your vehicle, while working on cars. "Being Careful" is a CONSCIOUS, INTENTIONAL, CHOICE. Practice it ! !

MOOD and ATTITUDE : Do not work on a car when you are upset, angry, or distracted. Do not work on a car with loose clothing, loose long hair, or jewelry on - these can be VERY dangerous. Wear eye protection against flying bits and fluids. Do not work on a car drunk or high on anything except life, etc. YOU ONLY GET ONE HUMAN BODY PER LIFETIME . . . . . . . taking care of it is the only real game in town !

JACKING and SUPPORTING CARS :
1. ALWAYS put the vehicle in gear, or Park if auto trans, and SET THE PARKING BRAKE, and BLOCK THE WHEELS BEFORE JACKING !!!
2. The MINIMUM SAFE CONDITION to have a car or van supported so you can work under it is : on A SMOOTH, LEVEL, CONCRETE FLOOR, with the car/van sitting on SOLID, AUTOMOTIVE-TYPE, JACK STANDS, NO exceptions !
3. Do not fudge on this. The surface must be hard, not soft, and it MUST be level. If you have the luxury of working under a car/van while it is on a Shop Auto or Truck LIFT, that's even better.

NEVER work on a car supported by a jack alone ! This is a cardinal rule in Automotive Repair …obey it !!
JACK STANDS are best…..blocks of wood, milk crates, etc. will not do.
Jack Stands are worth your investment, and if cared for…. they will last a lifetime. ROLL-UP RAMPS ARE NOT RECOMMENDED ! ..they are inherently dangerous.
